The Omaha Storm Chasers split their six-game series with the Columbus Clippers, winning the finale, 12-9, at Huntington Park Sunday afternoon.

Omaha hit seven homers on the day, which accounted for 11 of their 12 runs. Catcher Brian O’Keefe hit two roundtrippers for the Storm Chasers, giving him nine for the season. Half of Omaha’s runs came off Columbus starter Will Dion, who went four innings, giving up seven hits, walking three, and striking out four. Dion, a 2019 ninth-round pick of Cleveland, did not factor into the decision.

Columbus put together seven runs to take a one-run lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Eight of the Clippers’ starting lineup had a hit, but no one had a multi-hit game. Raynel Delgado, Kyle Manzardo, and Johnathan Rodriguez all went deep for their one hit of the afternoon.

The Clippers’ bullpen ultimately took the defeat with Hunter Stanley giving up three runs in the seventh inning and earning a blown save. Mason Hickman (1-3) allowed three scores in the eighth and was charged with the loss.

Reliever Kris Bubic (1-1) blew his save opportunity, but picked up the win throwing a complete seventh inning. Jesus Tinoco earned his first save of the season, tossing two scoreless innings to end the ballgame.

Columbus has an unusual week coming up. Rather than having Monday off, they will travel to Toledo to take on the Mud Hens in a short three-game series. The Clippers and the Mud Hens round out the week with three games back at Huntington Park, one each Thursday through Saturday.
