Going into Tuesday night’s game at Toledo, the Columbus Clippers’ magic number to make the International League playoffs was two. After a 5-1 loss to the Mud Hens, and victories by Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Worcester, the number remains at two with all three teams having five games left to play.

Toledo opened the scoring Tuesday with a run in the first inning against Columbus starter Ryan Webb after he issued a walk, then a double. The Clippers tied the score in the second when when Raynel Delgado knocked in Micah Pries who had walked and stolen second. That was only run that Columbus would score on the night.

The Mud Hens scored two in the sixth inning on a walk, a Clippers’ fielding error, and a triple. They added a run in the seventh on a walk and a double. Columbus pitching allowed only four hits in the game, but issued 13 walks. Tanner Burns (5-3) was charged with the loss. Reliever Chase Lee (1-3) picked up the win and Miguel Díaz earned his third save of the season.

Columbus and Toledo play an afternoon game Wednesday with the first pitch at Fifth Third Field slated for 12:05 p.m. Doug Nikhazy (6-3) will take the mound for the Clippers and will face Lael Lockhart (4-7) for the Mud Hens.
