The Columbus Clippers clinched another series with a 6-4 victory over the Gwinnet Stripers in suburban Atlanta Saturday. Seven of the nine Clipper batters had hits to nail down the fourth win in five days at Gwinnett. Columbus has not lost a series since the beginning of June.

The Clippers took the lead early Saturday with two runs in the first inning. Juan Brito hit a solo home run, his 18th long ball of the season. Then, with two outs and the bases loaded, Bryan Lavastida was hit with a pitch to drive in a run.

After Gwinnett scored a run in the second, Lavastida knocked in another run with a single in the third. Again, the Stripers added a run to cut into the Columbus lead. It was 3-2 going to the fourth inning.

The Clippers put one on the board in the fourth and two in the sixth. Estevan Florial posted a sacrifice fly in the fourth. In the sixth, George Valera and Johnathan Rodriguez hit back-to-back homers. It was the 17th for Valera and the team-leading 22nd for Rodriguez.

Gwinnett pushed two more runs across, one each in the sixth and seventh innings to cut the Columbus lead 6-4, which proved to be the final score .

Franco Aleman shut down the Stripers attack in the ninth and earned his second save of the season. Clippers’ starter Joey Cantillo (2-1) picked up the win, while Bryce Elder (9-4) was charged with the loss.

The teams finish up their Series Sunday with a 1:05 p.m. start. Doug Nikhazy (5-2) will take the mound for the Clippers.
