It has been a difficult two weeks on the road for the Columbus Clippers, but Saturday’s game at Omaha was an exception. Both offense and defense for the Clippers provided solid performances to beat the Storm Chasers, 8-2.
The offensive attack saw seven Clippers with hits. In a rare start, catcher Jake Anchia had three hits, including a double, and drove in four runs. C.J. Kayfus continued his hot streak at the plate, going 3-for-4 and knocking in two. Petey Halpin added two hits, including his seventh double of the season, and two RBIs.
Starter Will Dion (2-3) earned the win with a quality start, going six innings and allowing two runs on five hits, while striking out three. Reliever Franco Aleman tossed one inning, striking out all three Omaha batters he faced. Tanner Burns finished the game with two shutout innings for Columbus.
The teams play the finale of their six-game series Sunday at Werner Park with the first pitch slated for 3:05 p.m. Ryan Webb (2-2, 3.09) will take the hill for the Clippers and will face Chandler Champlain (1-1, 7.60).
