For the second series in a row, the Columbus Clippers won five of six at Huntington Park. Last week, it was Memphis. On Sunday, behind outstanding pitching, they took the series finale from Syracuse, 4-1.

Starter Will Dion (3-3) bounced back from a loss against the Mets in the series opener Tuesday with a six-inning shut out performance, allowing only four hits and one walk, while striking out four. Dion picked up his third win of the season.

The Clippers faced Mike Vasil (5-7), who they saw on Tuesday as well. In that game, he gave up only one run in seven innings of work and earned the win. It was a different story Sunday, as Columbus plated its four runs all in the first six innings against Vasil, giving him the loss.

The Clippers scored two in the second inning when George Valera singled to drive in Gabriel Arias. Myles straw then doubled to bring Arias around to score. In the fourth, Columbus added a run when Straw again doubled to knock in a run. The Clippers concluded their scoring in the sixth when Gabriel Arias hit a solo home run, his second since joining the Clips.

The Columbus bullpen once again performed well, allowing only one run in three innings of relief duty. Tyler Beede, Andrew Misiaszek, and Erik Sabrowski all threw an effective inning in the victory.

The Clippers get a day off before beginning a twelve-game road trip. The first six, beginning Tuesday, are against the St. Paul Saints. The trek continues in Des Moines the next Tuesday against the Iowa Cubs.
