The Columbus Clippers and Iowa Cubs had to wait until Thursday to get their six-game series under way. Games set for Tuesday and Wednesday were postponed because of excessive ground water at Principal Park in Des Moines. The teams had two doubleheaders scheduled to get back on track with the first on Thursday.

In the opener, the Clippers scored in five of the game’s seven innings to win 9-5. Myles Straw paced the Columbus attack with three runs batted in on three hits and scored a run. Raynel Delgado added two RBIs, while Kyle Manzardo and Juan Brito each hit solo home runs.

Reliever Andrew Misiaszek (1-0) picked up his first win of the season for the Clippers after a strong start from Joey Cantillo. Andrew Walters added a scoreless inning out of the bullpen. The loss went to Cubs’ starter Jordan Wicks (0-4).

In the second game, the Clippers took a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning. Iowa then exploded with five runs against Columbus starter Doug Nikhazy (4-2), all with two outs. The game finished with the Cubs on top 5-1. Iowa’s Josh Staumont (1-1) earned the win in relief.

The clubs play a single game Friday night starting at 8:08 p.m. Logan Allen (3-0) will be on the mound for the Clippers, to face Brandon Birdsell (1-4).
