There was a lot of college football for CBUS-area teams this weekend, including season debuts for Capital and Ohio Dominican, both of whom came away with wins.
Ohio Dominican 31, West Virginia Wesleyan 0
The Ohio Dominican Panthers (1-0) traveled to Buckhannon, W.V. for their opener Thursday against West Virginia Wesleyan (0-3). ODU held the Bobcats to just 105 yards of offense, while putting 426 yards on the board. Senior quarterback Drew Gallehue was 14-17 for 202 yards and a touchdown. One of the leaders on defense was linebacker Gabe Pence (Olentangy Liberty) with four solo tackles.
Alma 53, Denison 27
After a first week win, the Denison Big Red (1-1) were on the road to face Alma (1-1) Saturday. The Scots scored in all four quarters to win in convincing fashion, 53-27. Quarterback Tyler Green had a good day for Denison, passing for 352 yards and four touchdowns. Grayson Kerscher and Rob Lucey each had over 100 yards receiving. Alma finished the day with 294 yards passing and 279 yards on the ground.
Maryville (TN) 48, Ohio Wesleyan 24
The Ohio Wesleyan Battling Bishops (1-1) hosted Maryville (TN) (2-0) Saturday at Selby Field in Delaware. The Scots took a 28-14 at halftime and cruised to a 48-24 victory. The OWU defense gave up 636 yards of total offense to Maryville. Bishops quarterback C.J. Jackson was 23-39 throwing the football for 235 yards and a touchdown to wide receiver Josh Hurst.
Marietta 47, Otterbein 31
The Otterbein Cardinals (0-2) headed to the road in their second week of the schedule, traveling to Marietta (2-0) to take on the Pioneers. In a contest featuring both offenses, Marietta won 47-31. The star of the night was Pioneer running back Vanté Hodges, who rushed for 306 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries. Otterbein’s Brayden Bayles, a Heath grad, threw for 198 yards and a touchdown.
