The Columbus Academy girls’ golf team won its fifth consecutive Division II state title Monday and did it in convincing style. After two days of competition at Firestone Country Club in Akron, the Vikings posted a score of 615, 87 shots ahead of second place Chagrin Falls. No other golf team, boys or girls, has ever won by that many strokes in the history of the OHSAA state event.

Senior Eva Lim paced Academy with a two-day total of 147 (+3) on the par-72 Fazio Course at Firestone. After taking individual honors the past two years, she finished in the fifth spot this year. Julie Hartung, a junior from Madeira, was this season’s medalist, shooting 139 (-5), including a 68 on Sunday, the lowest round of the tournament.

The next three members of the Vikings team finished in the 13th, 14th, and 15th spots individually: sophomore Ava Hammond (155), junior Claire Zeiger (156), and sophomore Niya Chebli (157). Senior Meera Srini ended up in a tie for 23rd (169).

Maggie Freytag is the head coach of the Vikings. The Upper Arlington graduate started the team at Academy in 2019. Her team quickly became competitive at the highest level, finishing fourth in the state tournament in 2021 before capturing the title the next five years.
