Because of injury and international call-ups, the Columbus Crew were without a host of their top players Saturday against New England, most notably their top two goalkeepers and their leading scorer, Cucho Hernández.

The absences made little difference for the Black & Gold as they sailed past the Revolution 4-0 at Lower.com Field. Alex Mățan scored a hat trick with one tally in the first half and two in the second. Former New England defender DeJuan Jones led off the scoring for the Crew with a goal just four minutes after play began.

The Crew had already locked up the second seed in the MLS’s Eastern Conference coming into the match. Saturday’s win was the final home match of the season for Columbus. The Crew finish the regular season in Harrison, New Jersey next Saturday against the New York Red Bulls.
