The Columbus Crew have yet to lose in six MLS outings this season, but draws in their last three matches have seen the Black & Gold drop into the sixth spot in the Eastern Conference standings. On Saturday night, they were in our nation’s capital to take on D.C. United.

The Black-and-Red took the lead at the 13-minute mark when Christian Benteke found himself wide open from close range and sent it past Columbus goalkeeper Patrick Schulte. Benteke was the MLS’s Golden Boot winner last season with 23 goals in 30 appearances.

Three minutes later, Diego Rossi scored the equalizer when Andrés Herrera drove to the right goal line and sent a pass back to Rossi in the box. He beat D.C. keeper Kim Joon-Hong just inside the right post.

At the 65-minute mark, it was Rossi again. Max Arfsten found him just outside the box and he looped one over Kim after his shot was slightly deflected as it went into the air. The Crew’s defense stood tall after that for a 2-1 win.

One thing that Crew fans will be looking for is word on a lower-body injury suffered by Darlington Nagbe late in the second half. The Crew captain left the field after a hit from D.C.’s Boris Enow, which was deemed a foul.

With the win, the Black & Gold move into a tie with Philadelphia for second place in the Eastern Conference, just one point behind leader Inter Miami. The Crew are back on the pitch next Saturday as they host CF Montréal at Lower.com Field beginning at 7:30 p.m.
