The Columbus Crew have yet to lose this season, but they have dropped to the sixth spot in the MLS’s Eastern Division. After winning their first two matches, they have been a part of three straight draws. The latest was a 0-0 contest against the New York FC at Lower.com Field Saturday.
The Crew were at a disadvantage going into the match with NYFC. They were without a number of key players because of call-ups to international teams. Max Arfsten and goalkeeper Patrick Schulte were summoned to the USMNT, while Mo Farsi was called up by the Algerian national team. In addition, Malte Amundsen was unavailable because he had received a red card in the Crew’s last match.
The Black & Gold took 20 shots on the night. They did appear to have a goal from Jacen Russell-Rowe, which was overturned when replay showed that DeJuan Jones was offside. The Crew travel to Washingon, D.C. next Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. match against D.C. United. The Black-and-Red are 1-1-3 after falling 4-1 to Orlando Saturday.
