The #1-ranked Denison baseball team (35-1, 14-0 NCAC) hosted Ohio Wesleyan (13-23-1, 2-11-1 NCAC) in a conference doubleheader Tuesday and came away with two shutouts at Big Red Baseball Field, 15-0 (7 inn.) and 9-0. With the two victories, the Big Red have now won 34 consecutive contests.

In the first game, freshman starting pitcher Andrew Montero, an Upper Arlington grad, set a new Denison record with 16 strikeouts. The left-hander gave up only one hit and one walk in his seven innings of scoreless work. Montero is 5-0 this season with a 1.77 ERA. He leads the Big Red staff with 72 strikeouts in 40.2 innings.

The hitting star of the day for Denison was catcher/first baseman Jack Lutte, who went 5-for-8 with four RBIs and three runs scored. The junior from Venetia, Penn., hit his team-leading ninth home run. He also has 47 runs batted in to pace the Big Red. In the second game, senior Max Fishbein was 4-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs.

The Big Red hope to get back to the Division III world series this season. In 2025, they finished with a record of 41-7 and won their first ever Super Regional contest. They fell to the Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks and Rowan Profs to bow out of the double-elimination tournament.
