Denison captures NCAC field hockey title

The Denison field hockey team (12-6, 8-1) traveled to Selby Stadium in Delaware Saturday to take on host Ohio Wesleyan (11-6, 8-1) in the NCAC tournament championship match. The Big Red fell behind in the first half, but came back to tie the contest in regulation, then capture the crown in overtime.

The Bishops got on the board first. Freshman Morgan Leeper scored at the 23:18 mark, assisted by senior Emma Morgeson. The lead lasted until the last minute of regulation when Denison senior Katherine Flanagan scored off a penalty corner. The winning goal in overtime came from Big Red junior Emma Gebhart, the NCAC tourney MVP. 

Denison outshot OWU 16-5 and led 16-6 in penalty corners. It was the Big Red’s sixth conference tournament championship, its first since 2023. Denison, Ohio Wesleyan, and DePauw tied with 8-1 records for the NCAC regular season title.

With the victory, Denison has earned the automatic bid for the Division III NCAA Field Hockey Championship. Where and who the Big Red play wil be announced Sunday at 9:00 p.m. on NCAA.com.
