The #7-ranked Denison women’s basketball team (23-1, 12-1 NCAC) took over first place in the North Coast Athletic Conference Wednesday with a 74-57 win over Wittenberg (11-13, 4-9 NCAC) in Springfield. It was the Big Red’s seventh straight victory.
Anelly Mad-tongué paced Denison’s balanced attack with 15 points, eight rebounds, and four steals. Also scoring in double figures for the Big Red were Adelyn Moore (13), Ada Taute (12), and Brooke Toigo (11).
Denison pulled away in the second half shooting 17-27 (63.0%) from the field and 6-9 (66.7%) from beyond the arc. The Big Red defense forced the Tigers into committing 21 turnovers during the game and kept their shooting percentage from the floor to 43.5% (20-46).
With Ohio Wesleyan’s loss at DePauw Wednesday, the Big Red’s victory moved them into first place in the conference. The #9-ranked Battling Bishops (20-3, 11-2) are the only team to beat Denison this season, a 72-65 contest in Delaware on Jan. 24 that halted the Big Red’s 16-game winning streak to start the campaign.
Both Denison and Ohio Wesleyan have only one game remaining and that is their rematch Saturday in Granville. Whoever wins will claim the NCAC title this season. It will be Senior Day at Livingston Gymnasium. The game is set to tip off at 1:00 p.m. and can be seen on the Denison athletics website.
