The #8-ranked Denison women’s basketball team (28-2) beat #3 Washington & Lee, 77-64, Saturday to hand the Generals (31-1) their only loss of the season. The victory, which took place at Washington & Lee’s home court in Lexington, Va., sends the Big Red to the NCAA DIII Final Four in Salem, Va. this upcoming week.
Ada Taute once again paced Denison, scoring 24 points, including going 3-3 from outside the arc. Molly Dorighi added a career-high 19 points, while Abby Cooch had 12 points and Brooke Toigo scored 10. Post player Anelly Mad-Toingué pulled down a team-high 15 rebounds.
The Big Red, led by fourth-year head coach Maureen Hirt, now have 28 wins, matching the program record set in the 2010-11 season. They will play the #4-ranked Wisconsin-Oshkosh Titans in a semi-final matchup Thursday at the Cregger Center in Salem, home of the Roanoke College Maroons.
The other semifinal game, which will also be played Thursday, will feature the #1-ranked New York University Violets (29-0) and the #2 Scranton Royals (31-0). The Championship game is set for Saturday at 4:00 p.m. in Salem.
