The Denison women’s lacrosse team (16-4) beat Lake Forest (15-6), 23-4, Sunday at Kienzle-Hylbert Stadium in Granville to advance to the third round of the NCAA DIII tournament. The Big Red will face Franklin & Marshall (18-2) next Saturday in Lancaster, Penn. in a Sweet 16 matchup.
On Sunday, Denison led 9-1 after the first quarter and never looked back. Fifteen different players scored goals for the Big Red, with senior Anna DeVuono leading the way with four goals. Junior Mary Martinson added a hat trick, while junior Bridget Sheehy, junior Grayson O’Marra, and freshman Emerson Thompson each scored twice.
It is the seventh consecutive time that Denison has moved on to the third round. Their opponents, the Diplomats of Franklin & Marshall, are the Centennial Conference champions and earned their way to the Sweet 16 with a 15-11 victory over the Messiah College Falcons Sunday.
Denison and Franklin & Marchall have played six games previously with the Diplomats winning all six times. They matched up most recently in Florida on March 12, 2024 and F&M prevailed 19-11. The game Saturday gets underway at 1:00 p.m.
