After beating Delaware 4-3 in a shootout Friday at Buckeye Varsity Field, the Ohio State field hockey team blanked Cornell 2-0 at home on Sunday to improve its record to 4-2.
Delaware led three different times in Friday’s action, but each time the Buckeyes bounced back to tie the game. The last of those OSU goals came in the fourth quarter when Emily Barker, an Upper Arlington alum, scored her second goal of the day to knot things at 3-3 and ultimately send the contest to overtime.
When the 15-minute overtime did not decide a winner, the teams advanced to a shootout, where the Bucks grabbed the win, outscoring the Blue Hens 3-2.
In Sunday’s game, both OSU goals came in the second quarter against the Big Red. Sienna Golden and Lea DeWan scored for the Buckeyes. Goalkeepers Maddie Stevens and Avery Alleva each played a half to combine for Ohio State’s second clean sheet of the season.
The Buckeyes play one more non-conference game before beginning Big Ten play when they welcome Boston College to Columbus next Sunday. The game with the Eagles gets underway at noon.
