In January, the Columbus Fury started their second season with a seven-match losing streak that put them in a tough spot out of the gate. They appear to have turned a corner, winning two of their last three, including a 3-1 victory Monday over the league-leading Vegas Thrill at Nationwide Arena.
This season, the Professional Volleyball Federation has added a team, the Indy Ignite, to make it an eight-team circuit. The Fury were 8-16 in their first campaign. The Omaha Supernovas won the first PVF championship, defeating the Grand Rapids Rise. All player contracts in 2024 lasted for terms of one year only, so there has been a large number of roster changes.
The Fury were able to re-sign two of their players, veteran outside hitter Megan Lush and setter Tori Stringer. Lush, a Kettering native who was a two-time national champion at Penn State, has been named to the PVF All-Star Match that will be played in Indianapolis this Saturday.
So the Fury roster in 2025 has a lot of new faces, including a trio of Ohio natives: middle blocker Kaley Rammelsberg (Westerville/Big Walnut), outside hitter Raina Terry (Marengo/Highland), and middle blocker Abby Walker (Cambridge/John Glenn). The Fury have also added opposite hitter Izabella Rapacz and setter Wilma Rivera, both of whom have eight years of professional experience.
The Fury head to Grand Rapids for a match with the Rise this Thursday. All of the action from Van Andel Arena can be seen on the PVF’s YouTube channel beginning at 7:00pm.
