The Columbus Fury (9-19) played their final match of the season and did it in style as they beat the Vegas Thrill (10-18) on the road in five sets – 23-25, 25-22, 25-16, 18-25, and 15-5. With the win, the Fury halted a four-game losing skid.
Columbus was led by Izabella Rapacz, who posted a team-high 18 kills, as well as 10 digs, three blocks, and a service ace. Setter Wilma Rivera had 28 assists to lead the team and Kaylee Cox recorded 12 digs.
The Fury started this season with a seven-match losing streak that was hard to overcome. They had two three-game winning streaks along the way, but it wasn’t enough to work into the playoff picture.
In the second year of existence, the Professional Volleyball Federation now heads to their championship to be played at Las Vegas’s Lee Family Forum, home of the Thrill. The four teams who qualified for the tournament are the Omaha Supernovas (21-7), Atlanta Vibe (19-9), Orlando Valkyries (18-10), and Indy Ignite (13-15).
The semi-finals will be played on Friday, May 9 at 8:00 p.m. EDT and 11:30 p.m. EDT. The winners will play for the PVF title on Sunday, May 11 at 4:00 p.m. EDT. All of the tournament games can be seen on the CBS Sports Network. The Supernovas are the defending champions from the inaugural PVF season.
