The Columbus Crew took a 1-0 lead in their road match against San Diego FC Saturday when Max Arfsten took a pass from DeJuan Jones and sent it into the net from the left side of the penalty box at the 12-minute mark. It was Arfsten’s first goal and Jones’s first assist of the season.

Twelve minutes later, it appeared that Mohamed Farsi had scored, but the tally was called back because of a preceding foul call in the box against Arfsten. San Diego had a goal negated at 40′ because of an offside call. The score at the half remained 1-0 in favor of the Crew.

At the 54-minute mark, SDFC was once again called offside when it looked as though they had scored a goal. They did gain a sizable advantage six minutes later when the Crew’s Malte Amundsen received a red card for a foul against Anders Dreyer and the Black & Gold were forced to play with 10 men.

San Diego scored at 69′ when Onni Valakari headed in a corner kick to make it 1-1. The Crew were already down a player, but an injury to Yevhen Cheberko allowed SDFC to have a two-man advantage when they scored the equalizer. That was all of the scoring on the night and things ended at 1-1.

The Crew remain undefeated at 2-0-2 this season. They are in the Eastern Division’s second spot behind Philadelphia. Inter Miami is in the third place. Columbus is back in action next Saturday against New York City FC at Lower.com Field at 7:30 p.m. NYCFC beat New England 2-1 Saturday.
