All six games were low-scoring contests this week between the Columbus Clippers and Indianapolis Indians at Victory Field. After the Clippers shut out Indianapolis Saturday in the fifth game of their six-game series, the Indians returned the favor Sunday in the series finale, blanking Columbus, 2-0.
The Indians scored both of their runs in the third inning playing small ball. After two singles put runners at the corners, a sacrifice fly and another single plated a pair. Both teams had six hits in the game and none of them went for extra bases.
Columbus’s Christian Cairo had half of his squads hits, knocking out three singles in his five trips to the plate. C.J. Kayfus, Johnathan Rodriguez, and Yordys Valdes also recorded hits on the afternoon.
Clippers starter Slade Cecconi (0-2) took the loss in his third rehab start with the team. He gave up both Indian runs on six hits and struck out three in his 5.2 innings of work. Reliever Parker Mushinski recorded the final out of the sixth inning with a strikeout. Bradley Hanner then closed out the game with two hitless innings.
Columbus gets the day off Monday to travel further west and take on the Omaha Storm Chasers in a six-game series beginning Tuesday at 7:35 p.m. EDT. Left-hander Ryan Webb (2-1, 3.16) will make his sixth start of the season for the Clippers.
