Ohio Wesleyan 68, Bluffton 9
On Thursday at Selby Stadium in Delaware, the Ohio Wesleyan Battling Bishops (1-0) hosted the Bluffton Beavers (0-1) in the opening game for both teams. The Bishops put together 536 yards of total offense in a commanding 68-9 win. Senior quarterback C.J. Jackson threw for 205 yards and four touchdowns. Sophomore running back Gio Rufus, a Franklin Heights grad, paced OWU with 111 yards rushing. Kenny Thompson Jr., a senior tight end out of Olentangy Orange, had 62 yards and a touchdown to lead the receiving corps.

Edinboro 38, Ohio Dominican 36 (3OT)
For the second straight week, Ohio Dominican (1-1) played a three-overtime affair on the road. On August 27, the Panthers upset FCS team Morehead State 42-40. On Thursday, host Edinboro State (1-0) won 38-36. ODU led at halftime 18-7, but the Scots tied it at 21-21 to force extra time. Both teams scored seven points in the first OT, eight in the second. The third overtime period is composed of two-point coversions only. The Panthers were stopped on their try, while Edinboro converted for the win. Junior linebacker Harlee Hanna, a Canal Winchester alum, had 13 tackles to lead ODU.

Capital 35, Waynesburg 12
The Capital Comets (1-0) traveled to Western Pennsylvania Saturday to take on the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets (0-1) in the opening game for both schools. The Comets took a commanding 21-0 lead to the locker room at halftime. Each team put 13 points on the scoreboard in the second half and Capital came away with a 35-12 non-conference victory. Senior quarterback Tyler Love, a Teays Valley grad and Ohio Dominican transfer, threw for 218 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for a score. Eastmoor alum Diamonte Salley paced the Comets with eight tackles.

Hope 28, Denison 14
The #19-ranked Hope Flying Dutchmen (1-0) were in Granville Saturday to play Denison (0-1) at Piper Stadium. Hope led 14-0 at the halftime break on two running touchdowns. Both teams scored 14 points in the second half, with Hope coming away with the 28-14 victory. Big Red junior quarterback Brian Rager had a good day in the loss, going 32-for-43 for 273 yards. Blayton Reid, a senior running back out of Logan Elm, scored one of Denison’s two touchdowns. The other came on a fumble recovery by senior defensive back Nick Pellicciotta.

Calvin 53, Otterbein 21
The Otterbein Cardinals (0-1) hosted the Calvin Knights (1-0) on Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Westerville. The Knights outgained the Cardinals 577-356 in total offense on the afternoon. Freshman wideout Daniel Shaffer, a Hilliard Bradley grad, led Otterbein with 51 yards on two receptions, with a 45-yard touchdown catch. Caden Fabb, also a freshman out of Bradley, added a score on a pass play. Senior linebacker Troy Montgomery recorded the Cardinals’ other touchdown, returning a fumble recovery 57 yards for the score.
