The New Albany Eagles scored four unearned runs in the fourth inning of their OHSAA Division II baseball championship game against Walsh Jesuit to overcome a 1-0 deficit and go on to win 4-1 at 7 17 Credit Union Park in Akron Saturday.
It is New Albany’s third state title. The Eagles (26-7) captured a Division I championship in 2021 after taking a Division III title in 2004. They lost to Amherst Steele in 10 innings in last season’s state semifinal round.
Both pitchers in the contest put together outstanding performances. Junior starter Aiden Wyche tossed a seven-hit complete game for the Eagles to earn the win. His opposite number, left-hander Luca Borichevsky, also a junior, went all the way, allowing no earned runs on seven hits in the loss.
New Albany junior Connor Bahr had two hits in the win for the Eagles and scored their first run of the ballgame. Sophomore Remy Trautner knocked in a pair of runs, while senior Connor Kistner added an RBI.
The Eagles, who will have a brand new facility next year, played on the road in all of their contests this season. Their “home” field was down the road at Ohio Dominican’s Frank Damian Field in Panther Valley.
