On Sunday, the Ohio State football team found out that this year’s playoff journey to defend their national championship title will begin at the Cotton Bowl on Wednesday, December 31 at 7:30 p.m. EST. The Buckeyes will play the winner of the Miami (Fla.) and Texas A&M game to be played on Dec. 20 in College Station, Tex.
Ohio State comes into the playoffs as the #2 seed after falling to Indiana 13-10 in Saturday’s Big Ten Championship in Indianapolis. Texas A&M is seeded #7, while Miami is #10.
The Hoosiers and Oregon will also represent the conference in the 12-team College Football Playoff. Indiana will play the winner of Alabama and Oklahoma in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1. Oregon hosts James Madison in the first round on Dec. 20.
Last season, the Buckeyes went on to win the national championship after entering the playoffs as the #8 seed with a record of 10-2, having lost to Oregon and Michigan and not qualifying to play in the Big Ten title game. They reeled off wins against Tennessee, Oregon, Texas, and Notre Dame to claim the CFP Trophy.
