The Ohio State men’s hockey team lost to Wisconsin 4-1 Friday at Nationwide Arena in the first game of the teams’ best-of-three Big Ten tournament quarterfinals. The Buckeyes won Saturday’s game 3-2 in overtime, forcing a third game, which Ohio State won 3-2 Sunday night.Â
The Buckeyes fell behind 2-0 Saturday, then came back to tie the game on Graduate Gunnerwolfe Fontaine’s goal with just 1:29 left in the third period. Sophomore Riley Thompson posted the winner with 7:30 remaining in the extra frame.
In Sunday’s tilt, Ohio State took a 3-1 lead midway through the third period on sophomore Max Montes’s goal. The Buckeyes allowed a Badger score with 2:42 left in regulation and then held on for the victory.
Senior goalie Logan Terness stopped 27 shots on goal in Sunday’s win. Terness, a transfer from the University of Massachusetts, is 11-8-1 in 24 games this season. He has a save percentage of .926.
The Buckeyes will host Penn State next Saturday in a single-elimination semi-final game. Earlier this season, the teams each their two home games against the other. The other semi-final contest is Notre Dame at Michigan State, also next Saturday. The Spartans won all four games against the Irish in the regular season.
