The Ohio State men’s volleyball team (2-0, 0-0 MIVA) began its season with two 3-0 non-conference wins at the Covelli Center. On Thursday, the Buckeyes beat Central State (0-1, 0-0 SIAC), followed by a victory Friday over the New Jersey Institute of Technology (0-3, 0-0 EIVA).
Senior Shane Wetzel, a first-team All-MIVA player last season, led the Ohio State attack with a total of 16 kills. Junior Daniel Hurley and sophomore Stanislaw Chacinski each had 12 kills. Sophomore setter Daniel Henwood Rodriguez paced the Buckeyes with 45 assists. Henwood Rodriguez and sophomore Drew Hudson each had 12 digs.
In the Central State match, junior Jaedyn Harris, a Westerville North grad, led the Mauraders with seven kills.
Ohio State returns to the Covelli Center for two matches next week. George Mason comes to town for a Thursday tilt beginning at 7:00 p.m. The Patriots, who are members of the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association, play their first match Saturday against Catawba College.
On Saturday, Jan. 17, the Buckeyes host Long Beach State (1-0, 0-0 Big West) beginning at 5:00 p.m. The Beach are members of the Big West Conference. Both matches can be seen on Big Ten+.
