Just three days after upsetting #1-ranked Notre Dame in the second round of the NCAA tournament, the unranked Ohio State women’s soccer team were back at it Sunday against #23 Baylor.
Like the match against the Irish, Sunday’s contest went to two overtimes in South Bend, Ind. before the Buckeyes once again scored to capture a pressure-filled win.
Ohio State scored first when Amanda Schlueter scored in the 65th minute. At the top of the box, Schlueter passed right to Jadin Bonham who spun and passed back to Schlueter. The junior from Union, Ky. split a double team with a shot that found the back of the net. It was her tenth goal of the season.
Baylor rebounded with a goal just over four minutes later, which stood the rest of regular time, sending the match to overtime.
At 4:34 in the second OT, Schlueter advanced to the top of the box. Her shot was blocked and came right back to her. She pushed forward, then found Anika Poremba to her left. Poremba sent the ball across the goal mouth and tucked it inside the right post for the victory.
For the first time in 15 years, the Buckeyes advance to the Elite Eight. They will play #6-ranked Florida State in Tallahassee, Fla. this Friday at 5:00 p.m. Fans can watch the action on ESPN+.
