The #2-ranked Ohio State women’s hockey team (19-3-0, 13-3-0 WCHA) won two games at St. Cloud State (7-14-1, 3-12-1 WCHA) this weekend and earned the season sweep of the Huskies after beating them twice at home in October.Â
The Buckeyes won 4-0 at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center Friday. After giving up a goal to St. Cloud to start the scoring Saturday, Ohio State roared back to grab a 5-1 victory. Nine different Buckeyes scored single goals in the combined effort.
Getting on the board for Ohio State in the Friday tilt were: Hilda Svensson, Jordan Baxter, Sanni Vanhanen, and Jordyn Petrie. On Saturday, Mira Jungåker, Kaia Malachino, Maxine Cimoroni, Sloane Matthews, and Joy Dunne recorded goals.
OSU goaltender Hailey MacLeod stopped all 23 shots that came her way Friday to earn her third shutout win of the season. On Saturday, it was Genny Klein’s turn and she turned away all but one of the Huskies’ 22 attempts. MacLeod now has 12 wins, Klein has three.
The Buckeyes are back in Minnesota next weekend, taking on the Minnesota State Mavericks (11-10-1, 5-10-1 WCHA) in Mankato Friday (7:00 p.m. EST) and Saturday (4:00 p.m. EST). OSU swept the Mavericks in Columbus in November. Next weekend’s games can be seen on Big Ten+.
