For the second time this season, the #2-ranked Ohio State women’s hockey team (23-3-0, 17-3-0 WCHA) beat the St. Thomas Tommies (10-16-0, 5-15-0 WCHA) in a weekend series with one win in regulation and one in overtime. On Friday, the Buckeyes beat St. Thomas 2-1 in an extra frame, followed by a 5-0 victory Saturday.
In Friday’s contest, junior Jocelyn Amos scored the tying goal at the 7:58 mark of the third period and the winning goal just 38 seconds into OT. Junior Joy Dunne picked up an assist on both tallies. Amos, a native of Ailsa Craig, Ontario, scored again on Saturday and now has 12 goals on the season.
Five different skaters scored for the Buckeyes on Saturday. In addition to Amos, they got goals from Dunne, sophomore Jordan Petrie, freshman Maxine Cimoroni, and senior Sloane Matthews. Cimoroni and Matthews also added helpers.
Freshman goaltender Taylor Kressin stopped eight of nine shots in Friday’s action to earn her sixth win of the season. On Saturday, senior Hailey MacLeod stopped all 10 shots at the net to record her fourth shutout of the campaign. She is now 13-2.
The #5-ranked Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs (13-10-3, 9-8-3 WCHA) come to Columbus next weekend for two games. The Buckeyes won twice in Duluth back in November. Friday’s contest will begin at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday’s action will get underway at 3:00 p.m. Both games can be seen on Big Ten+.
