The Ohio State women’s soccer team (7-2-6, 3-1-5) traveled to Piscataway, N.J. for a Big Ten tilt with Rutgers (3-7-4, 1-7-1) Thursday at Yurcak Field. The Buckeyes scored the first three goals of the match and cruised to a 4-2 victory.
Sophomore Ava Greco and junior Amanda Schlueter recorded unassisted goals in the first 1:39 of play.
Greco scored off an OSU corner kick that the Scarlet Knights couldn’t clear. Schlueter drove to a spot outside of the Rutgers’ box and lined a shot to the upper left corner of the goal, just bending it inside the post.
It was the quickest that two scores had been put on the board to begin play in program history.
Ohio State scored again in the 19th minute when sophomore Jadin Bonham took a pass from Greco off a corner kick that went wide of the goal. Bonham found the net with her left foot from point blank range.
Bonham recorded a brace with a goal in the second half. This time, the Avon, Ohio native, found herself heading down the right side of the box with the ball. Rutgers goalkeeper Olivia Bodmer came out to make a play, but Bonham retook possession past the Knights’ keeper, spun, and connected from a tough angle to conclude the Bucks’ scoring effort.
Ohio State is back on the pitch Sunday at Maryland (6-10-0, 2-7-0). Kickoff against the Terrapins at Ludwig Field is set for noon and can be seen on the Big Ten+ network.
