OWU men's lacrosse wins late in NCAC battle

The Ohio Wesleyan men’s lacrosse team (10-3, 5-0) was in Gambier Tuesday to take on the Kenyon Owls (9-5, 4-2) in a battle for the top spot in the North Coast Athletic Conference. The score was tied at the end of the first three quarters. The Bishops topped Kenyon in the fourth quarter, 6-3, to win, 14-11.
The teams went back and forth for most of the game. Ohio Wesleyan led most of the first quarter, but Kenyon tied the score, 4-4, with five seconds remaining. The Owls were on top for almost all of the second with OWU pulling even at the end of the half to make it 6-6.
In the third quarter, the Owls took two one-goal leads through long stretches of the frame, but the Bishops tied the game, 8-8, with 3:04 to go in the stanza. In the fourth, the teams were tied at 10-10 at the 8:07 mark. Ohio Wesleyan then took control, outscoring Kenyon, 4-1, the rest of the way for the critical win.
Junior midfielder Garrett Smith paced the Bishops with five goals. Senior midfielder Joey Wiseman, an Olentangy Liberty alum, added three goals. Senior attacker Carson Geier posted two goals and three assists. Senior goalkeeper Nathan George recorded 15 saves for a solid .577 save percentage.
Ohio Wesleyan and Denison (9-4, 4-0) remain undefeated in NCAC play. The Big Red play at Wooster Wednesday, while the Bishops host Oberlin at the Jay Martin Soccer Complex Saturday at 1:00 p.m. OWU and Denison meet in the final game of the regular season in Granville on April 26 at 3:00 p.m.
