It’s always a spirited affair when the women’s lacrosse teams from Ohio Wesleyan (6-3) and Capital (4-3) get together on the field, whether in Delaware or Bexley. On Wednesday, it was Capital’s turn to host their annual non-conference tilt. A goal from the Bishops with 2:05 left in the game gave them a 17-16 road win.

In a back-and-forth first quarter, the Comets scored the first goal, Ohio Wesleyan scored the next three, followed by three straight from Capital. The Comets led 4-3 after one. Capital added to their lead in the second quarter and the score at the half was 9-6 in favor of the Comets.

The second half continued to be a see-saw contest. At the end of the third quarter, things were knotted at 12-12. Capital took a 16-15 lead with 5:22 left to go in the fourth when Grace Osborn, a Pickerington Central grad, scored her seventh goal of the game. Osborn is the NCAA Division III all-time leading scorer.

With 3:17 remaining, OWU’s Tiffany Trinh, a Dublin Scioto alum, tied the game with her only score of the night. Then, with only 2:10 on the clock, Brie Colangelo posted the final goal of the game on a free position shot to make it 17-16, Bishops. It was Colangelo’s fifth goal of the game and 19th of the season.

Capital now turns its attention to OAC conference play, traveling to Westerville to take on arch-rival Otterbein Saturday at 5:00 p.m. Ohio Wesleyan plays another OAC non-conference opponent, Ohio Northern, next Tuesday in Ada at 6:00 p.m.
