The Columbus Crew welcome the New England Revolution to Lower.com Field Saturday in the Black & Gold’s final home regular season match of the season. The Crew, who have locked up second place in the MLS’s Eastern Conference, will be without five players because of international obligations.
Two of the players are goalkeepers Patrick Schulte (U.S.) and Nicholas Hagen (Guatemala). That puts Abraham Romero in net without a back-up if Evan Bush is unable to return after being out of the lineup for the past six months with a broken arm. That scenario occurred in the Crew’s loss to Seattle on Sept. 7, when midfielder Sean Zawadzki was pressed into duty in goal after Romero received a red card.
Also missing Saturday will be Cucho Hernández (Colombia), who scored two goals for the Crew last Saturday in the team’s 3-2 home victory over Philadelphia, Mo Farsi (Algeria), and Taha Habroune (U.S. U20). The FIFA window for international play closes on Oct. 15, so the excused players will be back for the Crew’s final regular season match at the NY Red Bulls on Oct. 19.
New England was eliminated from the MLS playoff picture last Saturday in a 2-1 loss to D.C. United. The Revolution are led by Giacomo Vrioni’s nine goals, followed by seven goals from Carles Gil.
Saturday’s match at Lower.com Field gets underway at 7:30 p.m.
