Clippers Kody Huff swings bat

One of the few bright spots for the Columbus Clippers Friday in their 11-2 loss to Omaha was a solo home run hit by Kody Huff. File photo

The Columbus Clippers had a game Friday against the visiting Omaha Storm Chasers that they would just as soon forget about. They lost 11-2 in a contest that wasn’t that close. Besides a solo long ball from Kody Huff and Petey Halpin’s RBI single, there just isn’t much to talk about. Here are our three short takeaways from Friday’s rout:

1.    The Clippers managed only three hits on the evening, with Huff’s home run being the only extra-base knock. The roster struck out 14 times (that’s a majority of the 27 outs in a nine-inning game). Only Halpin did not have a K in the scorebook.

2.   All four Columbus pitchers allowed at least one run, including Franco Aleman. It took until his 19th game of the season for Aleman to give up his first earned run. Starter Ryan Webb took the loss, ceding four runs on four hits and six walks in his 4.1 innings of work.

3.   The good news is that the Clippers and Storm Chasers will play another game on Saturday. Both teams have won two games in the series with two left. Columbus has averaged just four hits in their last two games, both losses, so the question Saturday will be whether they can get back into offensive form

Saturday’s game between the Clippers and the Storm Chasers gets underway at 7:05 p.m. LHP Logan Allen (2-1, 5.44) will take the hill for Columbus. Omaha has yet to name a starter.
