The #4-ranked Ohio State Buckeye football team traveled to Bloomington, Indiana for a huge Big Ten matchup with the #5 Indiana Hoosiers Saturday. The Buckeyes came out of the low-scoring battle with a 19-15 win to end the Hoosiers’ 22-game winning streak, giving both teams a loss so far this season. Here are our three takeaways from Saturday’s game:
1.  While both teams amassed over 300 yards in total offense, it was the defensive performance for each squad, as well as some key mistakes, that highlighted the day. Indiana held Heisman candidate Jeremiah Smith to 68 yards receiving, more than half of that coming on a touchdown pass of 38 yards, while picking off two of Julian Sayin’s passes. Indiana missed two field goals and failed to connect on an open throw into the end zone that would have given the Hoosiers a late lead.
2.  Both starting quarterbacks came out of the contest banged up. Sayin left the game late in the second half after suffering an apparent upper body injury and was seen in a sling after the game. Indiana QB Josh Hoover landed awkwardly on his throwing shoulder in the third quarter and appeared to be wincing on subsequent throws although he missed only one play.
3.  After narrowly falling to Texas in their second game of the season, the Buckeyes had more to lose in Saturday’s contest. The win put them back on track as many of the nation’s top teams fell this weekend. Ohio State gets a week off before getting back into Big Ten play when they travel to Los Angeles for a tilt with USC on October 31. After that, it’s home games with Oregon and the much-improved Northwestern Wildcats. Indiana is at Michigan next Saturday.

The start time for the Buckeyes’ game against USC on October 31 has yet to be announced. The Trojans are 6-1 on the season, their lone loss coming at home to Oregon 41-27 on September 26. On Saturday, they won at Penn State 31-23.Â
USC is led by quarterback Jayden Maiava, who has thrown for 2,045 yards in the Trojans’ seven games. He has 28 passing touchdowns and only 3 interceptions. The senior has also run for two scores.
