The Columbus Clippers won their second one-run ballgame in as many days against the Omaha Storm Chasers Wednesday at Huntington Park. The Clippers took a 4-0 lead only to see Omaha tie things up in the seventh inning. The Clips scored on a passed ball in the eighth to win 5-4. Here are our three takeaways from Wednesday’s contest:

1.    George Valera had a nice day at the plate going 3-for-4 and knocking in a run. After spending time on the IL early in the season, the fourth year in a row that he has not started the season with the Clippers, he has come back from a fairly recent dip in production and seen his batting average steadily climb. The 25-year-old is now hitting .276 with four home runs and 23 RBIs in 30 games played.

2.   In his first difficult middle relief appearance this season, Trenton Denholm gave up four runs, two of those earned, in his two innings of work. He pitched the seventh and eighth innings, allowing five hits while striking out three. He was charged with a blown save, but the good news is that he earned the win. He has now picked up four wins and a save in his new role as a long reliever.

3.   Ralphy Velazquez, who just turned 21, had a good power day Wednesday. He hit his fourth double and first triple in limited time with the Clippers. He’s been hitting in the clean-up spot for Columbus. While he has struggled early putting the ball in play (his BA is .233), when he has connected, the ball has traveled into the gaps.

Columbus and Omaha will play a day game Thursday with the first pitch slated for 12:05 p.m. RHP Austin Peterson (0-2, 4.44) will get the start for the Clippers and will face LHP Ryan Ramsey (3-4, 5.12) for the Storm Chasers.
