The Louisville Bats scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth and held on for a 4-3 win over the Columbus Clippers at Louisville Slugger Field Tuesday. The Clippers scored a run in the ninth but a strike ’em out, throw ’em out double play ended the game in favor of the Bats. Here are our three takeaways from Tuesday’s game:

1.    Kody Huff hit a two-run homer for the Clippers in the sixth inning to give them a 2-1 lead. It was Huff’s 20th long ball of the season. The most home runs the 25-year-old has hit in his previous four seasons in professional baseball is seven with Akron in 2024. Last year, he hit six for Columbus. His 74 RBIs this year are tops on the team and are 27 more than any previous campaign.

2.   It was feast or famine for the Clippers’ pitching effort against the Bats. Starter Ben Lively went 4.2 innings and allowed only one run when he issued a bases-loaded walk in the fifth. Steven Pérez then tossed 2.1 scoreless innings without allowing a hit or a walk. Connor Brogdon pitched the eighth inning and recorded three strikeouts. In between the Ks, however, he gave up three singles, a double, and three runs and suffered his first loss of the season.

3.   Since the two Guardians’ call-ups on September 1st – utility infielder Daniel Schneemann and pitcher Carlos Hernández – Cleveland and Columbus have been active. Cleveland sent LHP Logan Allen back to Columbus, RHP Austin Peterson was recalled by the Guardians and sent back two days later, pitchers Daniel Espino and Franco Aleman were moved up, and Hernández returned to the Clippers.
