The Columbus Clippers were tied with the Omaha Storm Chasers 3-3 going to the bottom of the eighth inning at Werner Park Thursday. The Storm Chasers scored three runs in the eighth without an out being recorded and went on to win 6-3 to take a 2-1 lead in the six-game series. Here are our three takeaways from Thursday’s game:
1. This was about as equal a game as one can get in terms of the stats. Both teams had 10 hits with a single home run. Both lineups struck out nine times. The Clippers had two more extra-base hits, while Omaha had one more walk and an HBP. The difference? It was the Storm Chasers’ eighth inning, which saw them string together a walk and three hits to score three times.
2. Clippers outfielder Joe Lampe has now played in seven games since coming up from Akron. The 25-year-old was 1-for-4 with an RBI Thursday hitting in the lead-off spot. The Petaluma, Calif. native is now batting .368 with a homer and five runs knocked in. Already known for his speed and defensive abilities, if he can keep hitting well, he could quickly move up the prospects list.
3. Looking at the other Cleveland farm teams, who might be making their way to Columbus? At Akron, 22-year-old Alfonsin Rosario is displaying consistent power at the plate. In 51 games, Rosario leads the Rubber Ducks with 12 home runs and 41 RBIs. Lake County’s power hitter is outfielder Nolan Schubart. In 61 contests, he has 15 long balls and 55 runs driven in.
