The Columbus Clippers were leading 6-2 at St. Paul Friday going to the bottom of the ninth inning. For the second straight game, the Saints rallied, but unlike Thursday when they walked off with a win, the Clippers hung on for a one-run victory 6-5. Here are our three takeaways from Friday’s action:

1.    The Clippers were disappointed with their 4-3 loss Friday at CHS Field in St. Paul. They took a 3-2 lead with a run in the top of the ninth, but saw St. Paul’s Gabriel Gonzalez knock in two runs with a double for the 4-3 win. On Saturday, there was a feeling of déjà vu when St. Paul cut the Clippers’ lead to a one with three runs in the bottom of the ninth. Steven Pérez saved the day (and the game) retiring all three batters he faced, two by strikeout, to close things out.

2.   Cooper Ingle is settling back in after returning to the Clippers’ lineup following a debut stint with the Guardians this month. After going 4-for-5 and driving in a run in Thursday’s loss, he had another hit and RBI Friday. His batting average is now .303. Even hotter for Columbus is infielder Angel Genao, who is 6-for-17 in the current series with seven runs knocked in. He is hitting .308 this season.

3.   A rare umpire decision was made prior to the beginning of the seventh inning when Saints’ reliever Woo-Suk Go, recently picked up by Minnesota from Detroit, was ejected from the contest before he ever threw a pitch. As he came in from the bullpen, the home plate umpire Steven Hodgins inspected the inner palm of Go’s glove and found a foreign substance, resulting in Go’s disqualification.
