The Columbus Clippers played a wild one at Iowa Friday. They took a 6-0 lead after their first two at-bats, including back-to-back home runs to start the game, but the I-Cubs scored 12 straight runs to take a commanding lead. After the teams each scored a run in the eighth inning, the Clips plated five in the top of the ninth but couldn’t get the tying run across and fell 13-12. Here are our three takeaways from Friday’s back and forth action:

1.    Juan Brito has been solid since he returned to Columbus from Cleveland on April 28. In May’s seven games, he’s hitting .333 (10-30) with four home runs, his first long balls of the season, and eight runs batted in. In Friday’s game, he hit a solo homer in the first inning and added a grand slam in the second. He also walked twice and scored three runs. The demotion hasn’t affected his effort in the slightest.

2.   The Clippers listed Logan Allen as the starter heading into Friday’s contest, but it was Jack Leftwich who got the ball. It was the right-hander’s second spot start of the season. He’s come out of the bullpen eight times. The 27-year-old only threw two innings, allowing two unearned runs in the second frame after an infield throwing error. He deserved a better fate.

3.   On Friday, reliever Franco Aleman was called up to Cleveland for the first time after Connor Brogdon was designated for assignment by the Guardians. Aleman has been brilliant out of the bullpen for the Clippers. The native of Yaguajay, Cuba had thrown 12.0 innings in his 13 appearances this season, his third campaign at the Triple-A level. He had yet to yield an earned run on three hits and four walks, while striking out 18.

The Clippers and I-Cubs play the fifth game of their series Saturday at Principal Park with the first pitch slated for 4:08 p.m. EDT. RHP Austin Peterson (0-0, 1.29), who has posted two impressive starts since coming off the Injured List, will take the mound for Columbus. For Iowa, it will be LHP Jordan Wicks (0-2, 9.53).
