The Columbus Clippers had a tough week at Louisville Slugger Field against the Bats. The Clippers won 12-3 on Friday, but lost the other five games in their last road series of the season. On Sunday, Kody Huff hit two solo home runs, but Louisville won 6-4 in the finale. Here are our three takeaways from Sunday’s game:

1.    Huff’s two homers gave him 22 on the season, tied at the top of the Clippers’ roster with Ralphy Velazquez. He leads the team with 77 runs batted in, three ahead of Milan Tolentino. We recently talked about the unprecedented power season that Huff is having, but it bears repeating. The most long balls the 25-year-old has hit in a campaign previously, in 2024 at Akron, is seven. Last year saw his biggest RBI production with 47 for the Clippers.

2.   The Columbus pitching results have been in a tailspin as the season closes. They are third-worst in the 20-team International League with an ERA of 5.37. Only Iowa (5.98) and Omaha (5.39) are worse. They have given up 189 home runs in 141 games, also third-worst in the IL. On Sunday, Ryan Webb and Carlos Hernández combined in the seventh and eighth innings to blank the Bats, allowing only one baserunner, but the damage had already been done.

3.   Even with the tough week in Louisville, the Clippers left town with a record of 75-66. That means, with six games remaining in the season, they are assured of having a winning record for the 2026 campaign. As challenging as the season has been with the constant back-and-forth movement of players between Columbus and Cleveland, the Clippers have done a solid job of winning games along the way.
