The Columbus Clippers fell behind 1-0 after an inning of play in their opener at Iowa Tuesday. They then scored seven runs to take control of the game, finishing with a 9-6 win against the I-Cubs in Des Moines. Here are our three takeaways from Tuesday’s action:
1. The three catchers on the Columbus roster have all been valuable so far this season. On Tuesday, Cooper Ingle was back behind the plate after being activated off the injured list Sunday. He went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. The former Clemson Tiger is now hitting .390. Kody Huff moved out to first base and he went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. He’s up to .297. Oh, and Dom Nuñez entered the game in the bottom of the ninth to add his defensive skills to the mix. That’s some trio.
2. A bunch of young infielders have been given promotions to Columbus this season. While all have had an impact, two shortstops were moved in the past few days. Kevin Rivas went back to Single-A Lake County on Sunday, while Juan Benjamin returned to Double-A Akron today. Angel Genao was in the lineup at short against Iowa and posted his first Triple-A hit. The 21-year-old was hitting .271 at Akron this season, with more walks (22) than strikeouts (20) in 24 games.
3. Clippers reliever Franco Aleman picked up his third save of the season. He has thrown 12.0 innings in 13 appearances for the Clips and has yet to give up an earned run. That’s a lot of zeros in his ERA. The 25-year-old out of Yaguajay, Cuba threw the ninth inning and retired all three I-Cubs he faced. He got Justin Dean to fly out on the second of two sliders. He struck out B.J. Murray on four fastballs of 95 and 96 mph. The game ended when Pedro Ramírez popped out on another heater.

Columbus and Iowa will play an afternoon game Wednesday in the second game of their scheduled six-game series. RHP Trenton Denholm (1-2, 6.60) gets the ball for the Clippers and will face I-Cubs’ LHP Charlie Barnes (3-1, 3.74). The first pitch Wednesday is slated for 1:08 p.m. EDT.
