The Columbus Clippers hit four home runs in their Thursday afternoon contest with the Toledo Mud Hens at Huntington Park and went on to win 9-5. Bo Naylor, Cooper Ingle, George Valera, and Ralphy Velazquez all went deep for the Clips. Here are our three takeaways from Thursday’s action:

1.    Cooper Ingle has responded like a champ since coming back to the Clippers on July 9 after a brief debut stint with the Cleveland Guardians. In his seven games with the Guards, he went 2-for-21 at the plate and committed a faux pas when he threw a ball to a fan with less than three outs. In the three games against Toledo so far in this series, he is 7-for-13 with a home run in each of his last two games. He has raised his batting average to .318 and has 16 long balls, both tops for Columbus.

2.   Logan Allen was cruising along Thursday when four Toledo batters in the fifth inning made his day more challenging. The Mud Hens opened the inning with a double, a single, and two home runs to plate their first four runs of the game. Up until that point Logan had surrendered five hits without allowing a base on balls. He buckled down to finish the fifth, retiring the next three batters, including two strikeouts. Supported by his offense, he picked up the win to go to 5-3.

3.   Daniel Espino was called up to Cleveland on Wednesday to bolster the Guardians bullpen after they played a day-night doubleheader in Cincinnati the day before. He went one inning, allowing only a walk and striking out the other three batters he faced. He was back in Columbus Thursday and closed out the game for the Clippers without allowing a run.
