The Columbus Clippers put together a seven-run fourth inning against Lehigh Valley Wednesday at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, Penn., then added a run in the fifth to beat the IronPigs 8-5. Reliever Will Dion (5-0) picked up the win for Columbus. Here are our three takeaways from Wednesday’s game:

1.    The Clippers big fourth inning came as a result of a walk, two singles, and three home runs. C.J. Kayfus, Kody Huff, and Ralphy Velazquez all went deep to drive in six of the seven runs. Right before Velazquez hit his three-run bomb, the IronPigs committed a crucial error with two outs on a dropped pop-up in the infield that allowed a run to score and bring the Clippers’ first-baseman to the plate.

2.   Yorman Gómez got the start for Columbus and allowed three runs on three hits, two of which were homers, in 4.1 innings of work. The 23-year-old did strike out seven and walked only one. Dion ceded a run in 1.2 innings on the hill, but came in at the right time to earn his fifth win. Jack Leftwich picked up his third save of the season, tossing the final 1.2 innings without giving up a score and striking out three.

3.  Travis Bazzana, Parker Messick, and Cade Smith were named to the 2026 MLB All-Star Game after being selected through player balloting. It is the first All-Star Game for all three. Second baseman Bazzana started this season with the Clippers, while LHP Messick started 20 games for Columbus last season before being called up by the Guardians. Closer Smith last threw for the Clippers in 2023.

Columbus and Lehigh Valley will be back on the diamond Thursday with a game slated to begin at 6:45 p.m. RHP Austin Peterson (0-7, 4.55), who is looking for his first win of the season, will take the mound for the Clippers.

The IronPigs will counter with LHP Kolby Allard (2-2, 5.32). After being released by the Clippers on June 15, Allard signed with the Philadelphia Phillies and was assigned to Lehigh Valley.
