The Columbus Clippers found themselves down 3-0 to the St. Paul Saints going to the sixth inning and then scored eight runs over the next three frames to come away with an 8-3 win at CHS Field Wednesday. Here are our three takeaways from Wednesday’s game:
1. Kahlil Watson could have been our “pictured” player again today. Coming into Wednesday’s game, he had an average of .338 with 13 extra base hits in his last 21 games. In Wednesday’s win he went 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs. The night before, in the opener, he hit a double and his seventh home run of the season, while driving in two. Now hitting lead-off, he is getting on base but also knocking in runs with power.
2. We mentioned last Thursday that Trenton Denholm made his first relief appearance of the season after six starts. On that day in Iowa, he went three scoreless innings and earned the win out of the bullpen. On Wednesday, he worked the final three innings and did it again. No runs on two hits and another victory. It looks as though a pattern is developing.
3. Some quick semi-takeaways. Juan Brito hit his first triple of the year and drove in a run in the process. RHP pitcher Codi Heuer was called up to Cleveland Wednesday – it will be his first time with the Guardians after playing for four other MLB teams (89 games). To make room, RHP Franco Aleman is back with the Clippers. In his first trip to the Big Leagues, Aleman got into two games with Cleveland, allowing a run on two hits and striking out one.

After each team has won a game to start their six-game series, the Clippers and Saints will be back at it Thursday. RHP Pedro Avila (1-3, 7.67) will climb the hill for Columbus. For St. Paul, the start will go to LHP Aaron Rozek (0-0, 0.00). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:37 p.m. EDT.
