The Columbus Clippers and Omaha Storm Chasers got their series started a day late after rain and wind caused them to postpone their opener Tuesday at Huntington Park. The Clippers’ offense continued to roll, routing Omaha 15-7 behind a five-home run effort. Here are our three takeaways from Wednesday’s action:

1.    Ralphy Velazquez and David Fry each hit two long balls for the Clippers, while combining for 11 runs batted in. Velazquez, the Cleveland Guardians’ top prospect, now has 13 homers and 37 RBIs in 60 games for Columbus. Fry has four home runs and nine RBIs in his five games since joining the Clippers. He played in 71 contests for the Guardians to start the season.

2.   Columbus reliever Connor Brogdon tossed a scoreless inning out of the bullpen against Omaha Wednesday. The 31-year-old has allowed only one run in his three appearances for the Clippers. In 15.1 innings with Cleveland this season, he struck out 14 and walked only three, but allowed five home runs. He came to the Guardians’ organization this year after playing for Philadelphia and both the Dodgers and Angels in Los Angeles for a combined six seasons.

3.   Columbus activated right-handed reliever Jack Jasiak this week. The 25-year-old had a rough day back in March in his only appearance for the Clippers. It was the first game of the season and Jasiak allowed four runs in just one inning out of the pen. He found his way to Akron shortly thereafter where he was 9-4 with a 3.02 ERA, striking out 74 in 56.2 innings.
