The Columbus Clippers and Louisville Bats finished a suspended game Wednesday, then played another nine innings. The Clippers won both, scoring four times in the new day’s eighth inning to win the opener, 7-5. They took the second game, in a pitchers’ duel, 2-1. Here are our three takeaways from the two contests:

1.    Cooper Ingle continues his solid play, going 4-for-8 in the “twin bill” with two RBIs. He knocked in the final two runs in the suspended game with a two-out double that ultimately gave the Clippers the win. The 24-year-old leads Columbus with a .363 batting average and an OPS of 1.203. He is the #3 Cleveland Guardians prospect who is not currently playing for the Guards.

2.   Trenton Denholm appears to have found his calling – long relief. After beginning this season with six starts, Denholm now has three outings, of three innings each, out of the bullpen. On Wednesday, in the second game, his three innings saw just one run, his first as a reliever, on four hits with four strikeouts. The right-hander earned his first save of the season to go with his two relief wins. Pretty impressive pivot.

3.   In Wednesday’s second game, #2 Guardians’ prospect Ralphy Velazquez made his Triple-A debut. Only 20 years old, Velasquez was hitting .317 at Double-A Akron this season with seven home runs and 30 RBIs in 36 games. The first baseman, who can also play the outfield, smacked a double on a curveball in the fourth inning to record his first hit with the Clippers.

Columbus and Louisville play another day game Thursday with the first pitch at Huntington Park scheduled for 12:05 p.m. RHP Austin Peterson (0-1, 3.60) will take the mound for the Clippers. The Bats will counter with RHP Darren McCaughan (4-2, 8.68).
