The Columbus Clippers flat out hit Friday night in Buffalo, downing the Bisons, 12-6. The Clippers accumulated 13 hits with six players each recording a multi-hit game. Andrew Walters earned the win in relief as his rehab stint with Columbus continues. Here are our three takeaways from Friday’s action:
1. We have to talk about Travis Bazzano … again. On Friday, he had two doubles in three official at-bats and drove in four runs. He now leads the International League by himself with 11 two-base knocks. His batting average is up to .297. The Guardians’ top prospect also reached base three other times against the Bisons with two walks and an HBP. His on-base percentage is a solid .429. He started slowly this season, but he has found his stride.
2. Columbus reliever Jake Miller tossed the final two innings. He did not allow a hit or a run, walked one, and struck out two. The right-hander was drafted by Cleveland in the 20th round in 2021 out of the University of San Diego. He was a starter when he began his professional career, but last year with Akron and Columbus, he made 40 relief appearances and only two starts. In 66.0 innings, he struck out 56 and posted an ERA of 2.86.
3. On Friday, the Clippers brought infielder Kevin Rivas up from Akron for the second time. In his first games with Columbus, he didn’t see any action. He cracked the lineup in Buffalo Friday as the Clippers’ designated hitter and in his first Triple-A plate appearance, he singled, knocked in a run, and later came around to score. He walked the next time up and scored again. It got a little tougher after that, but what a start.

The Clippers and Bisons have both won two games in the series with two games to go. On Saturday, Columbus will send RHP Pedro Avila (1-1, 7.36) to the mound. For Buffalo, it will be RHP CJ Van Eyk (1-1, 3.44). The first pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
