The Columbus Clippers opened a six-game series in Buffalo Tuesday evening. They scored two runs in the top of the first inning and came away with a 5-2 win at Sahlen Field. Stuart Fairchild and Cooper Ingle both knocked in two runs for the Clips. Here are our three takeaways from Tuesday’s action:

1.    Logan Allen had another solid start for Columbus. He didn’t figure into the decision Tuesday, going 4.2 innings, one out shy of the number required. The left-hander allowed only one unearned run on two hits and two walks, while striking out seven. In his four starts so far this season, he has thrown 18.1 innings and struck out a team-leading 26 batters.

2.   Travis Bazzana is quietly moving his batting average up and delivering impactful at-bats. On Tuesday, he was officially 1-for-2 and is now hitting at a .284 clip. More important in the win, he walked three times and scored twice. Bazzana leads the International League in doubles with nine and is tied for first with two triples. He and Kahlil Watson pace Columbus with six stolen bases.

3.   Two Columbus relievers, Codi Heuer and Franco Aleman, have still not allowed a run this season. Heuer tossed a perfect eighth inning and picked up a hold Tuesday. He has appeared in eight games so far, averaging an inning in each outing and has allowed only four hits. Aleman struck out the three batters he faced in the ninth and earned his first save. It was also his eighth game and he has yet to give up a hit.

The Clippers and Bisons play the second game of their series Wednesday beginning at 6:05 p.m. LHP Ryan Webb (0-2, 8.36) will take the mound for Columbus. RHP Austin Voth (0-0, 3.86) will go for Buffalo.
