The Columbus Clippers wrapped up their six-game series Sunday at St. Paul with a 3-2 win. Through the first seven innings, the Clippers had managed just two hits, but in the eighth, Cooper Ingle led off with a home run to tie the game. Later in the frame, Juan Brito scored the go-ahead, and winning, run on a balk. Here are our three takeaways from the series finale:
1. Not only did catcher Cooper Ingle hit the tying homer Saturday, he also walked twice and threw out another runner on the basepaths. The long ball was his seventh of the season to go with 23 RBIs in his 25 games played. It was his second game in as many days behind the plate, which he had not done in a while. On Saturday, he took four foul tips to the body as well as fouling one off his leg. He’s showing grit, solid defense, a good eye at the plate, and power to go with a .347 batting average.
2. Clippers reliever Will Dion had an outstanding outing out of the bullpen Saturday He earned the win, going three scoreless innings to close out the game. The left-hander allowed only two hits and struck out six. Columbus has had pitching trouble recently, so blanking a potent offense like St. Paul’s in crucial innings was a real boost going forward.
3. The Columbus roster will get a boost in the relief corps when they get back to Huntington Park this week. Franco Aleman will be back with the club after a brief stint with the Guardians. He was called up to Cleveland because he had not given up an earned run in his 12.0 innings with the Clippers. Also, reliever Connor Brogdon was assigned outright to Columbus by the Guards after clearing waivers.

The Clippers travel back to Columbus Monday after two weeks on the road. On Tuesday, they begin a six-game series with the Louisville Bats. RHP Rorik Maltrud (1-0, 2.50) will take the hill for the Clippers, while Louisville turns to RHP Sam Benschoter (2-1, 6.04). And, of course, it will be another Dime-a-Dog night at the old ballyard.
